Monthly Meeting Summary
Meeting was called to order on Monday, July 13, by Terry Yarns at 7:08 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Attendance was 43.

 Secretary Report of previous month’s minutes was presented by Don Breuker Secretary.  Motion to approve the minutes was made by Patrick Kelly and seconded by Jan Boertscheller.   Carried.

 Treasurer Report was presented by Treasurer Kaylene Kinlen.  Balance of $2,724.31 on July 13.  Summary of previous month’s bank activity was presented.  Motion to approve the Treasurer Report as presented was made by Marti Nodland and seconded by Mary Chambers.  Carried.

 Clothing:  Jen has a logo designed and displayed samples of shirts.  The information will be live on our website soon.  Various colors and can be ordered.  Short sleeve - $20.  Long sleeve - $25.  Sweatshirts – short sleeve $30s an long sleeve $40.  There  will be some shirts in basic colors at the Sizzler for purchase.

 Joyce Prior Summer Sizzler Tuesday August 11 Details:  Presented by Harold, John, Rich and Terry

  • Ticket Sales Routine.  Harold.  Keep cash and receipt together.  Some tickets are sold already.  400 tickets were printed.  100 tickets are saved back.  Sales to other Counties will be made.  Kossuth-Harold.  O’Brien on 5th.  Sioux on 21st.  Humboldt.  Buenia Vista.  Clay.   Emmet.  Palo Alto.  Plymouth.  Cherokee–Terry.  Pocahontas-Terry. 

  • The first Sizzler held had 19 Counties Represented.

  •  ActBlue can be used to purchase tickets .  Go to our website.

  • Communications.  Lakes News Shopper ad tomorrow (7/14) and each week until the Sizzler. Mary Chambers and John Adams Sr head the Press List.

  • Sizzler page on the website is live.  (www.thedickinsondems.com)

  • Decorations.  Kim Aneweer is heading the committee.  Day of the event, the 11th, at 10:00AM we can begin set up.  Tables and chairs to set up.  Need LOTS of hands.  Need for table decorations.  Will have 80 quart jars.  We need ideas for those jars.  There is a need for decorative materials for the jars.  Including artificial flowers and live flowers.  Please help. Tear down is immediately after the Sizzler.

  • Personnel Needed:  Email will be sent asking for volunteers.  Set-up,  Introducers, Greeters,  Registration Desk, speaker timer, candidate greeters/escorts

  • Candidates.  Each candidate will be allotted a space for tables. One(1) complimentary ticket is allotted to each Speaker, their guest, and Campaign person.

  • Doors Open at 5:00.

  • Security.  John will arrange for security  from the Sheriff Department and Spirit Lake Police Department.

  • Golf Cart(s) and Driver(s).  For those with mobility challenges and in case of rain. Denny P provided a cart for the last Sizzler. He will be contacted.  Other offers will be accepted.

  • Program Order:      Harold will open the program.   Karen Stern will be the MC.

  • A band will be performing prior to the program starting. Thanks to Michael D. for arranging. Same band as in 2022.

  • Cash Bar available.

Dickinson County Fair:  July 17-20.  We are a paid sponsor this year; providing us with a booth/table space. This is first time as a paid sponsor.  The table will have at least two persons talking with fairgoers. It will be staffed during high traffic times, per the bldg. supervisor. Sizzler tickets, possibly voter registration, sharing democratic ideals are part of the presentations.  Volunteers are needed for one-hour slots, generally between 4:00pm – 7:00pm.  Email was sent to DCD subscribers.  Harold is coordinating. 

Highway Billboards:  This idea has been dropped.

Barn / Large Road Signs:  Not feasible with the cost involved and potential opportunity for theft.

Yard Signs:  Yard Signs with the Sizzler logo like on the shirts.  $10 each.  Motion made/seconded  by Louis Hasenwinkle/ Michael Dunn that we purchase 50 of the yard signs.  (50 signs at $10 each for total of $500).  Carried.

Campaign Limits.  Donations to Campaigns.  There was discussion on spending limits with the new Federal Election legislation and conflict of the amount that can be donated to Candidates with the District already donating.  Clarification will be determined and reported back.  Requested that Alex check into this and provide guidance  on this issue.

Central Committee Precinct Members.      Defer this item to a future meeting.

Other Conversations:

  • Patrick urged the retired people to consider giving donations to help sustain our Iowa Public Employee pensn plan.  Currently, it is under a lot of scrutiny. 

  • Karen and others had the opportunity to meet with Josh Turek for two hours in discussion on topics.A Thanks went out to all those that have been on the organizational side of preparing for the Sizzler.

  • Thanks to those who provided and served the Root Beer Floats prior to the meeting.

Motion to Adjourn was made/seconded  by Harold / Kim Aneweer.  Carried.  Meeting adjourned at 7:58 PM.
