Terry Yarns called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM., with approximately 22 attendees.
A summary of the August meeting was presented. No additions or corrections. Motion approved/carried by Pat K./John A.
Treasurer’s Report: Current balance checking account: $2,696.39. Donations since last meeting: $289.13. Motion approved. Accept report as presented; Harold P/Pat K.
Secretary Report of the previous month’s minutes was presented by Don Breuker, Secretary. Motion approved and accepted. Laurie H/Bonnie F.

ITEMS OF BUSINESS AND DISCUSSION:
U.S. House Representative of Iowa District 4 Demo Candidate. Ashley WolfTornabane introduced herself and presented her views and concerns for our District. She has been conducting Listening Tours of the district. Comments on her views: Protect Democracy, Supreme Court needs reform, Women’s Health, Insurance and keep it out of the doctor office, public education and public dollars stay out of private education, Water quality, Diversify Farmers, we need to give ‘Hope’, Public funded health care. “No King” Protest. Very successful. We need a leader and not just a group for the “No Kings”. Reference back to the Civil Rights movement and had a leader, Martin Luther King. Extended a thank you for the efforts that Sonja put into organizing this event.
Harkin / Kossuth County Event at Algona. Terry Y and Pat K attended the Fall Chautauqua Talk with Tom Harkin as speaker. DEI: – we the people and inclusive of DEI. There is a growing wealth gap. Tech giants are taking over. Much related discussion.
An Attendee commented that the Milford City Council will discuss if Fluoride will be included in the new plant at the next meeting.
Rob Sand Event. This coming Saturday (Oct 25) there will be a Rob Sand event. Purpose to go out and get signatures.
Off Year Caucus. It is the first week of February. Probably at Milford.
Next Month we will sit by our Precincts at the meeting.
Donations. We accept contributions.
Karen – An Idea – Suggestion. Vocational Services to the Community. The idea is that our organization steps up and out to help people of the county. And bring awareness to the people of the county that our organization cares. Three suggestions came forth. All three events will be in November and December.
We Adopt a Family at Christmas time through Upper Des Moines.
Purchase food and deliver the bags at the store. Group presentation and get recognition.
Have a Christmas Tree at the Mall in SL. Info gathering and presentation for the details of each project at the next meeting.
Pat K commented about the sale of Indian Motor Cycle Co to a CA private equity group. Concern of and for the employees and if they are able to continue job opportunities here. Pat was asked to monitor the situation and keep our group informed.
